What We're Waiting For!

Author: Laura Lascarso
Publisher: Atheneum Books for Young Readers
Release Date:  August 14th 2012

Three weeks ago I tried to run away from home. Now all I want is to go back.

When troubled Taylor Truwell is caught with a stolen car and lands in court for resisting arrest, her father convinces the judge of an alternative to punishment: treatment in a juvenile psychiatric correctional facility. Sunny Meadows is anything but the easy way out, and Taylor has to fight hard just to hold on to her sanity as she battles her parents, her therapist, and vicious fellow patients. But even as Taylor struggles to hold on to her stubborn former self, she finds herself relenting as she lets in two unlikely friends-Margo, a former child star and arsonist, and AJ, a mysterious boy who doesn’t speak. In this striking debut, Laura Lascarso weaves together a powerful story of anger and self-destruction, hope and love.
Why We're Waiting
First things first. The title?  Is creeeepy. The cover? Is also very creeeeeepy, and the synopsis is basically saying 'Buy me. Buy me. You won't regret it." So I figure, "Who am I to refuse a good book, right?"

Fifteen-year-old Tiger Lily doesn't believe in love stories or happy endings. Then she meets the alluring teenage Peter Pan in the forbidden woods of Neverland and immediately falls under his spell.

Peter is unlike anyone she's ever known. Impetuous and brave, he both scares and enthralls her. As the leader of the Lost Boys, the most fearsome of Neverland's inhabitants, Peter is an unthinkable match for Tiger Lily. Soon, she is risking everything—her family, her future—to be with him. When she is faced with marriage to a terrible man in her own tribe, she must choose between the life she's always known and running away to an uncertain future with Peter.

With enemies threatening to tear them apart, the lovers seem doomed. But it's the arrival of Wendy Darling, an English girl who's everything Tiger Lily is not, that leads Tiger Lily to discover that the most dangerous enemies can live inside even the most loyal and loving heart.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Peaches comes a magical and bewitching story of the romance between a fearless heroine and the boy who wouldn't grow up.
Our Teaser!
“Sometimes I think that maybe we are just stories. Like we may as well just be words on a page, because we're only what we've done and what we are going to do.”

“From where I sat, Peter and Wendy were the two loneliest figures in the world. But Peter was somehow the lonelier of the two.”

Review: Getting over Garrett Delaney by Abby McDonald

Author: Abby McDonald
Publisher: Candlewick Press
Release Date: January 24th 2012
Pages: 336
Read in: 2 days

Seventeen-year-old Sadie is in love: epic, heartfelt, and utterly one-sided. The object of her obsession - ahem, affection - is her best friend, Garrett Delaney, who has been oblivious to Sadie's
feelings ever since he sauntered into her life and wowed her with his passion for Proust (not to mention his deep-blue eyes). For two long, painful years, Sadie has been Garrett's constant companion, sharing his taste in everything from tragic Russian literature to art films to '80s indie rock
- all to no avail. But when Garrett leaves for a summer literary retreat, Sadie is sure that the absence will make his heart grow fonder - until he calls to say he's fallen in love. With some other girl! A heartbroken Sadie realizes that she's finally had enough. It's time for total Garrett detox! Aided by a barista job, an eclectic crew of new friends (including the hunky chef, Josh), and a customized selfhelp guide, Sadie embarks on a summer of personal reinvention full of laughter, mortifying meltdowns, and a double shot of love.

The Sugar and Spice:

I was wrong! So so so wrong about this book. For once in my life, I’m glad I was wrong, though. After reading the Overview, and looking at the novel’s title: “Getting over Garrett Delaney.” I found myself thinking something among the lines of … “Ugh, not another pathetic break-up story.” But, as I’ve previously stated I was WRONG.

“Getting over Garrett Delaney” begins with our poor, poor, Sadie pining over her best friend/ guy-who-will-never-notice-how-much-she-loves-him, Garrett. School’s out and Garrett goes away to the camp that Sadie and he were supposed to attend together. Keywords – supposed to. Only problem? Sadie gets a rejection letter, while Garrett gets an acceptance letter. Sadie thinks her life is over, until she finally gets the job her mom has been bugging her about. The job is at her favorite coffee place, ________. (Oooh, barista! Nice switch.) What was supposed to be a boring summer, mooning over Garrett, becomes this fun-filled, rediscovery/detox program. Unfortunately, what aids this program is the breaking of Sadie’s heart. That’s right. Garrett admits his love … FOR ANOTHER GIRL! (The nerve, right?!) Sadie’s rediscovery/detox program starts off kind of rough. However, when her friends join in, the book gets a way more interesting.
Eventually, Sadie’s on her own again. When she finally begins to understand how much she changed her world around for Garrett, Sadie finally begins to look at the bigger picture, and she realizes that she wasn’t as independent as she always thought she was. By the book’s end, Sadie rediscovered who she really was, what her interests were, and FINALLY realized that people, who love you, don’t try to change you.

From the beginning I thought Garrett was cocky, annoying, irritating, demanding, and selfish. Don’t get me wrong … he sounds, and probably is nothing short of YUMMY. But, he was most definitely not for me. I really liked the real Sadie, she made me laugh, she stood up for herself, very sarcastic (one of my sometimes “accidental” traits), and overall she reminded of the independent teenager that most girls hope to be. I also enjoyed when Garrett came back from summer camp, her newly-changed attitude had me yelling “You go, girl!” Anyway … I am totally, utterly, and completely in love with this book. If you’re looking for some new, and interesting Chick-lit, this is totally up your alley.

What We're Waiting For!

Author: Katie McGarry
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Release Date: July 31st 2012

So wrong for each other...and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.

Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.
Why We're Waiting
Okay, first things first. Is anyone looking at that cover the way we're looking at it? Bad boy, Noah looks HOTTTT. (That was not a typo.) We've seen pretty good reviews for this book as an ARC, and well... we're sold! We miss the bad boys in all the chick-lits. Seriously, where'd they go?! Well anyway, we're waiting. AND the very second Pushing the Limits is released -- WE'RE BUYING.

Monday Musings is a meme where you talk about a book, you're currently reading, or have read. You post some artistic work (image, song, poem etc.) that reminds you of a theme or scene from the book you've read or are reading.

(Yes, we realize it's Musing Mondays, not Monday Musings. LOL, but it was too late, and we were too tired to care.)

In honor of just finishing one of our Summer Reads, Getting Over Garrett Delaney, we though we'd share some pictures we found that were funny, cute, and a bit sad. The theme? Breakups.
